Ethiopian Coffee

Harar coffee is often referred to as “Harrar” or “Harari” coffee, named after the city of Harar, which has been a hub for coffee trade for centuries. The region’s unique combination of high-altitude, fertile soil, and favorable climate contribute to the exceptional characteristics of its coffee beans

The coffee beans from Harar are typically harvested by hand, as is the case with most specialty coffees. The traditional method of processing used in Harar is called the “natural” or “dry” process. This process involves sun-drying the coffee cherries on raised beds or patios, allowing the fruit to dry around the beans, imparting distinct flavors.

Whether you’re craving a mouthwatering PO’BOY sandwich or a delightful breakfast dish, Yay Beignet and Bistro promises to deliver a flavorful experience with a touch of Southern charm.

History Of Coffee

History Of Ethiopian Coffee

Ethiopian coffee has a rich and storied history that dates back centuries. It is widely believed that coffee originated in Ethiopia, specifically in the region known as Kaffa, which is where the name “coffee” is derived from.
The legend of the discovery of coffee by an Ethiopian goat herder named Kaldi is well-known. According to the story, Kaldi noticed that his goats became lively and energetic after eating the red cherries from a certain tree. Intrigued, he tried the cherries himself and experienced a similar stimulating effect. Kaldi shared his discovery with the local monastery, and they began experimenting with the cherries, leading to the preparation of the first known cup of coffee.

This is THE place to go for beignets! These beignets were light, airy and flavorful all while covered with enough powdered sugar to double dip! I haven’t had a beignet this good outside of Louisiana, ever! Next time you are at the Beltline / Krog Street, please stop by and support this Black Owned business. The food was fresh…the mango tea was refreshing and the service was quick.

Yay Beignet is such a vibe! They have perfected the recipe for fried catfish. The catfish and grits were the perfect combination of creamy and crispy. The biscuits are everything you need; flaky, moist, and a perfect companion for the fish. The beignet bites were amazing in both the chocolate sauce and the cinnamon sauce. Last but most important, the people were nice. Good customer service is hard to come by and Yay Beignet’s staff understands the assignment. I can’t wait to visit again!

It's a matter of preference. Neither of us liked our coffee (espresso & ice coffee, both black) and we ended up tossing them. Beignet bites we doughy. There was 1 or 2 in the bunch that were light and fluffy.

The beignets are very good and made fresh right in front of you. However I can't recommend the coffee, it's all premade drip in a thermos, and the resulting drink is very weak & watery.

Begneits are good but man I can’t stand in this place for more than 5 min without coughing from the fryer air.
